Governments case against Hutaree militia members seems to be weak
If not you would think that a judge would rule differently.
Judge orders release of 9 Hutaree militia members
A federal judge in Detroit today ordered the release of nine members of a Lenawee County Christian militia group freed on bond over the objections of federal prosecutors.
“The United States is correct that it need not wait until people are killed before it arrests conspirators,” U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts said in a 36-page decision. “But, the Defendants are also correct: their right to engage in hate-filled, venomous speech, is a right that deserves First Amendment protection.”
She said federal prosecutors failed to persuade her that the defendants must be jailed until trial.
It is unclear whether the U.S. Attorney’s Office will appeal the decision.
“We will be reviewing and weighing all of our options,” said spokeswoman Susan Plochinski of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Roberts said the defendants could be freed under house arrest on electronic tethers. They must surrender their concealed weapons permits, cannot apply for a license to purchase or carry guns and cannot drink alcohol or take drugs.
She said they must continue to work and report to pretrial services on a weekly basis.
Robert said the defendants also must provide a list of names, addresses, and phone numbers for all Hutaree members and members of any other militia groups they associated with.
Being angry and talking smack about the government isn’t enough to justify arresting and throwing people in jail.
If these people are a danger to others then they need to be incarcerated, but the government needs more than harsh words and scowling faces to deprive them of their first amendment rights and freedom.

Honoring Veterans, Past and Present
Today is Veterans day, a time to set aside for remembrance of the men and women who heard the call to serve and selflessly went.
Some lost their lives in defence of freedom, others survived to pass away in time.
Truth is that none of us are more than a generation or two away from being lost to memory as those who loved or knew us pass away with time also.
All of us someday will be little more than an image in a picture that some child, somewhere will ask someone who we were………and that person will not have the answer.
We may not know their names or who they were or even how they died but they will all be one thing, veterans, and worthy of remembrance.
So while you’re watching the parades and waving your flags give a thought to those who’s names are lost in time and give a little prayer for them also, because they too answered the call, stood a post and defended freedom.
To all veterans out there living and deceased:
Thank you.

The next planned Tea Party Demonstrations are set for the Fourth of July and my community will be participating. There have been radio spots on a local AM radio station all week promoting the event here.

Going Green is Really Gonna Cost You
With the government take over of 2 major automotive companies in the United States it’s no surprise to me that the era of manly muscle cars is over. We have now entered the age of the metro-sexual weenie car.
Observe.
Electric Car Company Launches Car-Sharing Program
~snip~
Businesses and local governments can also buy the Maya 300 for their fleets. The company will make the cars available to the public in 2011, starting at $25,000 for a 60-mile range vehicle and $35,000 for the 120-mile range vehicle.~snip~

$35,000 for 120 miles on a charge, you notice of course that they don’t say how long it takes to charge…..do they.
The automobile facilitated a freedom that Americans could never, in the history of this country, enjoy before the invention of the internal combustion engine. The plain truth is that there is no reliable substitute, and it will take decades before we see one.
Drill here, drill now…wean ourselves off of foreign oil while looking for alternatives, but don’t try to sell us on limiting our choices or our freedom for glorified golf carts.

The busiest locations on Memorial day were…..
I don’t know about anywhere else, but where I live liquor stores seemed to be the most popular.
Being a veteran myself I can understand wanting to toast the memory of old friends and comrades both still living and gone. But with the number who were towing boats or had grills and coolers with them I don’t quite think they were heading out to a memorial service or to plant flags.
Don’t get me wrong, I think there’s a lot of reasons to celebrate our freedoms and liberties with or without a holiday, but memorial day is a little more than a state sanctioned 3 day weekend. The number of people pausing to reflect on those who gave their lives in service to their country seems to shrink every year.
I mean I actually had to remind a 20 something co-worker what memorial day is. But then again I didn’t really appreciate it’s significance until I got older.
So keep having those picnics and family outings on the lake, and if you want to raise a glass to celebrate your day off then go for it, but least at one point in the day try and reflect on the sacrifices of those who gave their all for the nation you live in.
