November 5
I’ve been contemplating what happens after the election and reflecting on what the political process has become in my life time.
The truth is, no matter who wins this election, the only thing that will happen is that Americans will continue to do what they have done for the last 8 years…..tear ourselves further apart.
How did we get to where we are now?
For the most part conservatives (and I argue the majority of Americans) want basically a “live and let live” kind of America. Less government more fiscal restraint, a respect for human life, a SCOTUS that reads the constitution, to keep what we earn and to raise our kids to have morals and ethics.
How have we as a society come to the point where we have another vision of America, one where everything is shared, our values ridiculed and others morals and ethics forced on us and our children whether we want them or not?
Believe it or not there was a time in America where democrats and republicans shared the same values, ethics etc. as conservatives, but not anymore.
It seems to me that every election cycle is more of a war between these 2 ideals.
Whoever we elect is not going to fix this divide, not in this election cycle or for several more to come.
I think in some ways conservatives have to share some of the blame if/when we lose this election, and I’m not just talking about investing ourselves in a republican party that has gone off the reservation as far as conservatism is concerned.
One of the members of our forum posted an article where Frank Luntz says:
Luntz predicted a Barack Obama victory and said that one of the many reasons the Democrats have been more effective with their message is because, while Republicans dominate talk radio, Democrats have begun to dominate the Internet.
“I’d rather have the Internet,” he said.
Progressives/liberals trend younger than conservatives, and we have allowed ourselves to be intimidated and out shouted on the Internet.
So much so that a lot of conservatives don’t bother with making their presence known.
Liberal/progressives have dominated social networking sites and have cowed most so-called conservatives to hide behind closed forums as if they are ashamed of their positions and viewpoints.
I know of at least 2 forums with large memberships that stay hidden this way. We however allow our forum to be open for all to read, which apparently is kind of scary for conservatives.
In the next 4 years liberal/progressives will continue to try and dominate what will increasingly become a stronger political force for the future.
The failure of this election cycle has many causes, one of them being the timidity on the part of conservatives to make their ideas and positions known.
This is something that we must change to make a difference in the future.
We need to take ownership of our opinions and positions and not be afraid for all the world to see and read them, maybe then we can take back the political top spot in this country.

Stifiling Free Speech
I don’t think it’s any secret that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the third world for a variety of reasons that are better left for another blog post.
And we all know how the United Nations likes to kowtow to the third world, without the United States to demonize the rest of the world would lose interest in being members, so it’s really no surprise that this little den of dictators, potentates and self proclaimed emperors would introduce a so called “non-binding” resolution to halt speech that offends religion. Originally Islam was the only religion capable of being offended, but I suppose in the interest of fairness, it was amended to include all religions.
U.N. Anti-Blasphemy Resolution Curtails Free Speech, Critics Say
Religious groups and free-speech advocates are banding together to fight a United Nations resolution they say is being used to spread Sharia law to the Western world and to intimidate anyone who criticizes Islam.
The non-binding resolution on “Combating the Defamation of Religion” is intended to curtail speech that offends religion — particularly Islam.
Pakistan and the Organization of the Islamic Conference introduced the measure to the U.N. Human Rights Council in 1999. It was amended to include religions other than Islam, and it has passed every year since.
In 2005, Yemen successfully brought a similar resolution before the General Assembly. Now the 192-nation Assembly is set to vote on it again.
The non-binding Resolution 62/145, which was adopted in 2007, says it “notes with deep concern the intensification of the campaign of defamation of religions and the ethnic and religious profiling of Muslim minorities in the aftermath of 11 September 2001.”
It “stresses the need to effectively combat defamation of all religions and incitement to religious hatred, against Islam and Muslims in particular.”
I’m assuming that this also includes the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which would be a shame of course because nothing is better than defaming the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
In a perfect world this would be something, that as American citizens, we would easily just dismiss because having a constitution and freedom of speech this couldn’t possibly affect us. But this isn’t a perfect world, if you doubt that then, let’s see what Ruth Bader Ginsburg has to say about the use of foreign law and it’s impact on Supreme Court rulings.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice- Supreme Court of the United States
April 1, 2005
Before taking up the diversity of opinions on this matter, I will state and endeavor to explain my view, which is simply this: If U. S. experience and decisions can be instructive to systems that have more recently instituted or invigorated judicial review for constitutionality, so we can learn from others now engaged in measuring ordinary laws and executive actions against charters securing basic rights.
So the question is, if Obama is elected in November, and has a chance to shape the court with left leaning justices, how long will it be before the first lawsuit is filed in America against someone for “defaming” Islam?
How long after that will there be criminal penalties?
