‘In God We Trust’ for Me, none for Thee

Well the Freedom From Religion Foundation seems to have filed a lawsuit taking exception to the words “In God We Trust” being carved into the entrance of the Visitors Center.

Group Seeks to Block ‘In God We Trust’ Engraving

The nation’s largest group of atheists and agnostics filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to block an architect from engraving “In God We Trust” and the Pledge of Allegiance at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington.

The Madison-based Freedom From Religion Foundation’s lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in western Wisconsin, claims the taxpayer-funded engravings would be an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.

The House and Senate passed identical resolutions this month directing the Architect of the Capitol to engrave “In God We Trust” and the pledge in prominent places at the entrance for 3 million tourists who visit the Capitol each year.

The resolution came in response to critics who complained Congress spent $621 million on the new three-story underground center without paying respect to the nation’s religious heritage. The center opened in December after years of construction.

~snip~

They’re pretty selective about their outrage however seeing as how they have no problem accepting currency with these words emblazoned upon the back.

They have a very lively “donate” page with several very enthusiastic ways to make sure you have every opportunity to send them notes with these offending words written on them…….before and after you die.

Why risk offending them?

Just keep “In God We Trust” to yourself.

Annual Bash Christians and Merry Christmas Festival

Here it is folks….the annual bash Christians and Merry Christmas festival, complete with disenfranchised gays feeling the rejection on to and including The American Humanist Association.
For the first, of what I am sure to be many, salvos we have this:
‘Why Believe in a God? Just be Good’ Ads Set to Run Next Week On D.C. Buses

Washington, D.C. —  You better watch out. There is a new combatant in the Christmas wars.

Ads proclaiming, “Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness’ sake,” will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.

In lifting lyrics from “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” the Washington-based group is wading into what has become a perennial debate over commercialism, religion in the public square and the meaning of Christmas.

“We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you,” said Fred Edwords, spokesman for the humanist group. “Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion.”

I suppose somebody has to protect all those agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists from the “be of good cheer” and happy holidays crowd.

I’ll be posting the hand wringing and pulling out of hair over the anxiety of “peace and goodwill” as it happens. Should be an interesting season.

Atheists Sue President Over National Prayer Day

MADISON, Wis. —  The nation’s largest group of atheists and agnostics is suing President Bush, the governor of Wisconsin and other officials over the federal law designating a National Day of Prayer.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation sued Friday in U.S. district court, arguing that the president’s mandated proclamations calling on Americans to pray violates a constitutional ban on government officials endorsing religion.

The day of prayer, held each year on the first Thursday of May, creates a “hostile environment for nonbelievers, who are made to feel as if they are political outsiders,” the lawsuit said.

The national proclamation issued this year asked God’s blessings on our country and called for Americans to observe the day with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.

Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle is named in the suit because he is one of 50 governors who issued proclamations calling for the prayer day. The foundation is based in Madison.

Atheists and agnostics are in a tither over a national day of prayer and yet completely silent when Muslims in this country force their religious values on others.

Muslims have 6 Flags ask Employees not to Wear Shorts on Muslim Day

This Saturday is Muslim Day at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Los Angeles.
Six Flags spokeswoman Sue Carpenter has said that Six Flags employees have been asked not to wear shorts that day out of respect for Islam, although she said it is not mandatory.
Or intimidate companies into providing special breaks for “prayer time” for Ramadan.

I guess these clowns ain’t got the balls to take on a religion who’s members have a track record of dismemberment, mayhem and murder.
