Murdering for Honor in America
It appears a judge in Florida has decided that a teenage girl who fled her family in fear of her life after converting to Christianity must return to Ohio.
Christian Convert Teen Must Go Back to Ohio, Judge Rules
A 17-year old girl who fled from her home, fearing her Muslim parents would kill her for converting to Christianity, must go back to Ohio, a Florida judge ruled Tuesday.Judge Daniel Dawson ruled Ohio has jurisdiction over the case involving the teen, Rifqa Bary.
Before the girl gets sent back, the judge says he needs immigration papers proving her status in the U.S. and proof from the state of Florida that she can continue her virtual schooling and receive credit in Ohio.
She is expected to be placed in foster care when she returns and will also be provided with psychiatric evaluations. Her parents will also receive psychiatric evaluations.

To be fair there are allegations that Rifqa Bary was “brainwashed” or unduly influenced by those she ran away to to avoid being killed for “honor”.
Unfortunately honor killings have been making their way further into western countries with the migration of people from countries that have practiced it for centuries.
Honor Killings Come to America
Honor killings have come to the U.S. and Canada in recent years, and are increasing in Europe, giving credence to Bary’s fears.
On February 12, a Muslim TV broadcaster portraying himself as a moderate named Muzzammil Hassan reported to the police that his wife was dead, leading to his arrest. He pled not guilty in court. His wife was found stabbed several times and with her head severed after she handed him divorce papers. She had previously told the police that her husband was abusive and controlling, and cited “cruel and inhumane treatment” when she filed for divorce six days earlier.
Hassan had previously received an award from the Council on American-Islamic Relations in 2007 for his creation of Bridges TV, which he had ironically said was aimed at fighting back against anti-Muslim sentiment and stereotypes.
On July 6, 2008, police arrived at the Jonesboro, Georgia home of Chaudry Rashid following to 9-11 calls, including one presumably of Rashid, saying, “My daughter’s dead.” The 25-year old woman, who had decided to divorce from her arranged husband, was found strangled to death. Rashid was arrested, and police officers say he admitted to killing her with a bungee cord for violating their religion.
On January 1, 2008, Sarah and Aimna Said, ages 17 and 18 respectively, were found shot to death in a taxi cab in Irving, Texas. The FBI believes that their Egyptian father, Yaser Abdel Said, murdered them, and he is still on the loose.
Brainwashed or not it is not an unreasonable fear, I mean it’s not like it has never happened before, even in our own country.
It’s possible the parents actually do care for their daughter and yet there is enough anecdotal evidence to move very cautiously reintroducing her back into it. It would be a shame to have this young woman’s worst fears realized and to die by the hand of a family member or even her own father.

I’ll be watching this story. I recall the Hassan case. He was supposedly running a radio station in order to show the “moderate” side of Islam. That didn’t work out too well when police showed up to find that he had beheaded his own wife, leaving their young children without a mother.
