One Day Better Than None
Over the the years I’ve seen Christmas transformed from a day of celebration that united the majority of the people in this country with a shared belief in the birth of a Saviour to one that seems to be more commercialized and contentious with each passing decade.
No matter what our problems or conflicts nearly the whole world would pause on this one day to reflect on peace and goodwill.
Some folks think one day isn’t enough, I say one day is better than none.
So Merry Christmas to all !!!

Special Election in Illinois?
Barack Obama ran on the promise of “change we can believe in” but in his home state it’s politics as usual. Democratic governor Blagojevich still has the power to appoint someone to the senate seat vacated by Obama after he won the presidential election.
The problem is anyone who takes the seat will be tainted forever with the stench of the governors scandal and it will send a clear message to the rest of the country that the democrats not only turn a blind eye to corruption but encourage it.
The Illinois house has the ability to call for a special election that can settle the matter once and for all, will it be politics as usual in Illinois or will we finally see the change the American people were promised?

Republic Windows and the Union
As some of you out there may have heard Republic Windows in Chicago closed it’s doors, prompting an occupation of the property by the former workers.
Angry Laid-Off Workers Occupy Factory in Chicago
CHICAGO — Workers who got three days’ notice that their factory was shutting its doors have occupied the building and say they won’t go home without assurances they’ll get severance and vacation pay.
About 250 union workers occupied the Republic Windows and Doors plant in shifts Saturday while union leaders outside criticized a Wall Street bailout they say is leaving laborers behind.
Leah Fried, an organizer with the United Electrical Workers, said the Chicago-based vinyl window manufacturer failed to give 60 days’ notice required by law before shutting down.
Well it seems now that it’s being reported that the wife of the owner of Republic Windows has been linked with the purchase of a plant that does similar manufacturing in Iowa.
Republic Windows owner linked to Iowa plant purchase
A company managed by the wife of Republic Windows and Doors owner Richard Gillman recently purchased an Iowa plant that manufactures similar products, according to public records.
Gillman has come under fire in recent days for abruptly closing Republic’s Goose Island plant and refusing to provide workers there with the 60 days notice and pay required by federal labor law.
Echo Windows and Doors was created two weeks ago and lists Sharon Gillman as its manager, according copies of records obtained by the Daily News from the Iowa Secretary of the State. According to Cook County property tax records, Sharon Gillman is Richard Gillman’s wife.
The couple purchased a $2.6 million Oak Street condo together in 2007, according to property records.
The Gillimans could not be reached for comment today. But this afternoon, Richard Gillman released a statement confirming the creation of the new company.
Bank of America has now agreed to extend limited loans to Republic Windows to settle the dispute after threats from Gov. Rod Blagojevich and sympathy from Barack Obama.
The bottom line of all of this is that the workers in Chicago still don’t have jobs, and the union has basically forced the company to relocate to a state where they are free to conduct business without the heavy hand of democrat backed socialist leaning unions.
The workers lose their jobs but get lip service from Blagojevich, Obama and the union…..way to go.

Chicago Corruption is a Surprise?
The arrest of Illinois governor Blagojevich is just another rung in the long ladder of Chicago style corruption that, somehow inexplicably, surprises everyone.
Feds: Governor tried to ‘auction off’ seat
Federal prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, right, alleges that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, below, sought kickbacks as he considered a replacement for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the president-elect.
Anyone who has ever lived in or near Chicago has always known that the political machine, more specifically the democrat political machine, was rife with favors and payoffs before the beginning of the last century when they got cozy with corrupt individuals and then later the mob for political power and money.
The fact that Barack Obama cut his political teeth in Illinois should give anyone pause about the kind of administration he will have. I find it near impossible that he could have moved through the machine without picking up some dirt from his associates.
I fully expect Blagojevich to throw a lot of people under the bus in an attempt to save himself, the only question is, who will have further ties with Obama and what will they be willing to say for leniency?
We could have a democrat president who spends more time defending himself from scandal than taking care of the problems of this country………hmmmm, not much change there, is there?
