Still Without Substance

Here we are heading towards the nomination of Barack Obama and the “change” we were promised and yet somehow the media still can’t get to any substance when it comes to how all this change is going to happen.

Instead we’re going to get stories from the media like this:

‘Obama cookie’ bringing in lots of dough for cafe

Sales soaring for treat the president-elect and his family enjoyed in Iowa.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Want an example of the change Barack Obama is bringing to the country?

Check out cookie sales at Baby Boomers Cafe in Des Moines.

Ever since word spread about the president-elect and his family’s fondness for Baby Boomers’ chocolate chunk cookies, the small downtown restaurant can’t bake them fast enough.

“Two months ago I was giving these cookies away,” said co-owner Rodney Maxfield. “Now, it’s like ‘I need two dozen cookies. I need four-dozen cookies.’”

The Obamas became frequent visitors to the cafe last summer when the Illinois senator devoted much of his time to Iowa, where the state’s precinct caucuses kick off the presidential nominating process. Obama’s main office was next door to Boomers, and his staff made the cafe a second home.

I hope the media is enjoying their honeymoon with the “One”, because after January 20th America expects and deserves to hear and see solutions to the countries problems.

The Audacity of Entitlement

“The offspring of riches: Pride, vanity, ostentation, arrogance, tyranny”

Mark Twain

Big Three auto CEOs flew private jets to ask for taxpayer money

(CNN) — Some lawmakers lashed out at the CEOs of the Big Three auto companies Wednesday for flying private jets to Washington to request taxpayer bailout money.

“There is a delicious irony in seeing private luxury jets flying into Washington, D.C., and people coming off of them with tin cups in their hand, saying that they’re going to be trimming down and streamlining their businesses,” Rep. Gary Ackerman, D-New York, told the chief executive officers of Ford, Chrysler and General Motors at a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee.

Delicious indeed, These CEO’s have been listing the doom and gloom to befall us if these companies are forced into bankruptcy.

Like maybe the tragedy of them being forced to travel like the rest of us, no wonder the UAW has balked about agreeing to anymore concessions.

I abhor class warfare, anyone who has made a success of themselves either through rising to a top executive position, or succeeding in their own business, are entitled to enjoy the perks and rewards that the position in that company is willing to pay for.

But that is not the case here, there are no incentives in any part of the bailout plan to force these executives to change business as usual. The only perception that the public sees, and rightly so, is a subsidy for executive privilege.

If they want a hand out they need to change their boardroom first.

Bringing Back the Draft

From Debbie Schlussel’s blog.

The democrats oversaw the longest period of involuntary conscription in modern times, the Republicans got rid of it, look who’s Chief of Staff is talking about bringing it back.

New Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel pimps draft and mandatory national service to NY Daily News. And the joys of living in barracks from age 18-25.

Annual Bash Christians and Merry Christmas Festival

Here it is folks….the annual bash Christians and Merry Christmas festival, complete with disenfranchised gays feeling the rejection on to and including The American Humanist Association.
For the first, of what I am sure to be many, salvos we have this:
‘Why Believe in a God? Just be Good’ Ads Set to Run Next Week On D.C. Buses

Washington, D.C. —  You better watch out. There is a new combatant in the Christmas wars.

Ads proclaiming, “Why believe in a god? Just be good for goodness’ sake,” will appear on Washington, D.C., buses starting next week and running through December. The American Humanist Association unveiled the provocative $40,000 holiday ad campaign Tuesday.

In lifting lyrics from “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” the Washington-based group is wading into what has become a perennial debate over commercialism, religion in the public square and the meaning of Christmas.

“We are trying to reach our audience, and sometimes in order to reach an audience, everybody has to hear you,” said Fred Edwords, spokesman for the humanist group. “Our reason for doing it during the holidays is there are an awful lot of agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists who feel a little alone during the holidays because of its association with traditional religion.”

I suppose somebody has to protect all those agnostics, atheists and other types of non-theists from the “be of good cheer” and happy holidays crowd.

I’ll be posting the hand wringing and pulling out of hair over the anxiety of “peace and goodwill” as it happens. Should be an interesting season.

November 5

I’ve been contemplating what happens after the election and reflecting on what the political process has become in my life time.
The truth is, no matter who wins this election, the only thing that will happen is that Americans will continue to do what they have done for the last 8 years…..tear ourselves further apart.
How did we get to where we are now?
For the most part conservatives (and I argue the majority of Americans) want basically a “live and let live” kind of America. Less government more fiscal restraint, a respect for human life, a SCOTUS that reads the constitution, to keep what we earn and to raise our kids to have morals and ethics.
How have we as a society come to the point where we have another vision of America, one where everything is shared, our values ridiculed and others morals and ethics forced on us and our children whether we want them or not?
Believe it or not there was a time in America where democrats and republicans shared the same values, ethics etc. as conservatives, but not anymore.
It seems to me that every election cycle is more of a war between these 2 ideals.

Whoever we elect is not going to fix this divide, not in this election cycle or for several more to come.

I think in some ways conservatives have to share some of the blame if/when we lose this election, and I’m not just talking about investing ourselves in a republican party that has gone off the reservation as far as conservatism is concerned.
One of the members of our forum posted an article where Frank Luntz says:

Luntz predicted a Barack Obama victory and said that one of the many reasons the Democrats have been more effective with their message is because, while Republicans dominate talk radio, Democrats have begun to dominate the Internet.

“I’d rather have the Internet,” he said.

Progressives/liberals trend younger than conservatives, and we have allowed ourselves to be intimidated and out shouted on the Internet.
So much so that a lot of conservatives don’t bother with making their presence known.
Liberal/progressives have dominated social networking sites and have cowed most so-called conservatives to hide behind closed forums as if they are ashamed of their positions and viewpoints.

I know of at least 2 forums with large memberships that stay hidden this way. We however allow our forum to be open for all to read, which apparently is kind of scary for conservatives.
In the next 4 years liberal/progressives will continue to try and dominate what will increasingly become a stronger political force for the future.
The failure of this election cycle has many causes, one of them being the timidity on the part of conservatives to make their ideas and positions known.
This is something that we must change to make a difference in the future.

We need to take ownership of our opinions and positions and not be afraid for all the world to see and read them, maybe then we can take back the political top spot in this country.
