Who’ll Say anything to win?
Watch and decide.
Clueless Congresscritters
Amongst rising prices and fears of recession Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich. thinks it would be a good idea to increase the tax on gas.
Michigan Congressman Wants 50-Cent Tax Hike on Every Gallon of Gas
A Michigan congressman wants to put a 50-cent tax on every gallon of gasoline to try to cut back on Americans’ consumption.
Polls show that a majority of Americans support policies that would reduce greenhouse gases. But when it comes to paying for it, it’s a different story.
Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., wants to help cut consumption with a gas tax but some don’t agree with the idea, according to a new poll by the National Center for Public Policy Research.
The poll, scheduled to be released on Thursday, shows 48 percent don’t support paying even a penny more, 28 percent would pay up to 50 cents more, 10 percent would pay more than 50 cents and 8 percent would pay more than a dollar.
“I don’t want to pay more, I don’t think anyone wants to,” said Karen Deacon, a motorist.
“I think that wouldn’t make any sense,” said Frankie Hoe, a motorist. “Ugh … who’s making the money from all this and where is that money going? Is it going to go green? I don’t see any green things anywhere.”
The automobile is the nation’s biggest polluter; Americans use more gas than the next 20 countries combined.
Sometimes I wonder if these elitists realize the impact of their pandering as normal Americans make adjustments to the rising costs of oil and doing business? Read the rest of this entry »
Another Bonanza for Trial Lawyers
The democrats have passed some legislation to benefit their true constituents, trial lawyers.
House Passes Democratic Terror Surveillance Package, Does Not Grant Immunity
WASHINGTON — The House on Friday approved a Democratic bill that would set rules for the government’s eavesdropping on phone calls and e-mails inside the United States.
The bill, approved as lawmakers departed for a two-week break, faces a veto threat from President Bush. The margin of House approval was 213-197, largely along party lines.
Because of the promised veto, “this vote has no impact at all,” said Republican Whip Rep. Roy Blunt of Missouri.
The president’s main objection is that the bill does not protect from lawsuits the telecommunications companies that allowed the government to eavesdrop on their customers without a court’s permission after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The vote sent the bill to the Senate, which has passed its own version that includes the legal immunity for telecom companies that Bush is demanding.
Without that provision, House Republicans said, the companies won’t cooperate with U.S. intelligence.
I’m sure the telecom companies are looking forward to the veto on this one.

Global Warming running late
I live in a deep southern state and here it is….. March and the weather service is saying we could see 3 to 6 inches of snow.
Normally it would be spring like and I would be getting my fishing tackle ready for the spring run of monster crappie we get to catch here.
