The inevitability of a McCain nomination?

It seems that quite a few conservative bloggers have, unenthusiastically, come to the conclusion that John McCain is going to be the nominee of the republican party. With an almost solemn resignation they have thrown their support to him as an alternative to whoever the democratic party throws at us.

But there are few out there who can’t get past McCain’s short comings, expressed pretty well by Mark Levin in this article:

Rally for Romney

There are so many things I could pick from the article that mirror my own thoughts as to why McCain is a poor choice to run against Hillary or Obama, such as this:

As for McCain “the straight-talker,” how can anyone explain his abrupt about-face on two of his signature issues: immigration and tax cuts? As everyone knows, McCain led the battle not once but twice against the border-security-first approach to illegal immigration as co-author of the McCain-Kennedy bill. He disparaged the motives of the millions of people who objected to his legislation. He fought all amendments that would limit the general amnesty provisions of the bill. This controversy raged for weeks. Only now he says he’s gotten the message. Yet, when asked last night if he would sign the McCain-Kennedy bill as president, he dissembles, arguing that it’s a hypothetical question. Last Sunday on Meet the Press, he said he would sign the bill. There’s nothing straight about this talk. Now, I understand that politicians tap dance during the course of a campaign, but this was a defining moment for McCain. And another defining moment was his very public opposition to the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003. He was the media’s favorite Republican in opposition to Bush. At the time his primary reason for opposing the cuts was because they favored the rich (and, by the way, they did not). Now he says he opposed them because they weren’t accompanied by spending cuts. That’s simply not correct.

His pandering to democrats and open border/amnesty position is enough to turn me off to his nomination. The only thing I can see going in his favor is his position on the Iraq war.

So no I don’t want to see McCain get the nomination, Mitt Romney may have his faults but the truth is he represents my views better than McCain ever could.

So I support Mitt Romney and have high hopes that he can prevail to become the nominee for president of the United States.

What else can be said?

America and Marines, this should make us all proud.

A little diversion

I’m always amazed by the wonder of the reality of our universe. So many people get caught up in the supernatural and fictional.
They fret about things only imagined and yet ignore the truly wondrous things all around us.
Hubble finds double Einstein ring

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has revealed a never-before-seen optical alignment in space: a pair of glowing rings, one nestled inside the other like a bull’s eye pattern. The double-ring pattern is caused by the other complex bending of light from two distant galaxies directly behind a foreground massive galaxy, like three beads on a string.

More than just a novelty, this very rare phenomenon can offer insights into dark matter, dark energy, the nature of distant galaxies, and even the curvature of the universe.

The ring was found by an international team of astronomers led by Raphael Gavazzi and Tommaso Treu of the University of California, Santa Barbara. The discoveryis part of the ongoing Sloan Lens Advanced Camera for Surveys (SLACS) program. The team is reporting its results at the 211th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Austin, Texas.

The phenomenon, called gravitational lensing, occurs when a massive galaxy in the foreground bends the light rays from a distant galaxy behind it, in much the same way as a magnifying glass would. When both galaxies are exactly lined up, the light forms a circle, called an “Einstein ring,” around the foreground galaxy. If another background galaxy lies precisely on the same sightline, a second, larger ring will appear.

Because the odds of seeing such a special alignment are estimated to be one in 10,000, Tommaso says that they “hit the jackpot.” The odds of seeing this phenomenon are less than winning two consecutive bets on a single number at Roulette.

Pretty awesome ain’t it?

Ron Paul’s “Duh” moment.

What a disconnected pathetic old man.

Ron Paul is ranting on about this administration looking for an excuse to go to war with Iran, and yet the commanders in the field showed remarkable restraint to avoid just that.
The fact is that the man just did not comprehend the question, do you really want him in charge of this nation?
This is not the saviour of America.

Ron Paul’s Message, Enough Already!!!

Another debate tonight featuring the viable Republican candidates and Ron Paul.

I don’t how many times we have to hear the same message from this guy, it’s basically “constitution…constitution….America bad…….constitution”. Like the Ronulans say “who can be against the constitution?”, I’m all for it, but as always he never says exactly what he’s going to do to accomplish what he thinks the constitution means.

Sorry folks, I just can’t get past the fact that this guy has been in congress for decades and hasn’t achieved anything. Oh sure he’s submitted and sponsored legislation but none has ever passed into law….not one. His supporters all claim it’s not Dr. Paul’s fault, it’s all the fault of the CFR, Bilderberg controlled congress. After a couple of decades that’s the best reason they got.

If you were an employer and had a resume’ in front of you that basically said “I’ve never accomplished a thing in my last job but if you hire me I’ll stick to my principles”.
Would you hire him?
That’s exactly what Ron Paul wants us to do, say what you like about the other candidates, but they actually have a record of accomplishments and mistakes.

That’s what makes a person. You can say you got all the integrity in the world but if it’s never been tested then how does anyone know?
His supporters have managed to keep him in the debates through hook or crook, and the argument that his message is not getting out is old and tired. It is getting out, and being rejected.

Time for “Dr. Paul” to move on so we can get down to selecting a president, FOX News has made the right decision to exclude him from their debate, we’ve heard his message….we considered it and then rejected him.

Mike Huckabee and his promises, promises

A member of my forum (BrotherPatriot) gave me the heads up on an email he received of Mike Huckabee promising to review the convictions of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean if elected as POTUS. It’s no secret that Huckabee knows his way around pardons, but it’s a pretty poor trade off to elect Huckabee to achieve justice for these men.

Huck vows to review controversial shooting

Mike Huckabee vowed in Iowa on Saturday that one of his first actions as president would be to review what he called the “absurd” convictions of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean — and suggested he might pardon them immediately.

In response to an audience question, Huckabee said he found it hard to accept that the agents were imprisoned for shooting an accused drug smuggler who illegally crossed the Texas border near El Paso in 2005.

The two were convicted of assault, obstruction of justice and civil rights violations.

The case caused a conservative firestorm and remains one of the hottest causes on the anti-immigration right. President Bush has refused to get involved.

The former Arkansas governor, who is surging in Iowa in the Republican presidential race, acknowledged he has been criticized for commutations as governor but said he would take up the case anyway.

“From what I can tell, … by Christmas of 2009, they wouldn’t be there — in fact, hopefully by Valentine’s [Day] 2009, if not sooner, they would be back home with their families.”

So my question is, with immigration being such a hot topic and a very real possibility that these men have suffered a great injustice, where are the rest of the candidates on the issue of pardoning these men?

Here we are in the New Year!!

A new year of possibilities, an election year to choose a new president and possibly change the course of the country.
In a way it could be exciting or scary as hell, but that depends on which way we go.

There are many issues facing us, the war on terror, illegal immigration and health care to name a few. Some people aren’t waiting for the the issue of who the President is or even who we have in congress. Some states have already moved on issues that affect them.

Oklahoma and Arizona have already passed laws to discourage illegals from settling into their states, some laws have been passed to deny illegal immigrants drivers licenses and to close down day labor sites. Some cities have revoked their “sanctuary” status and given their police departments the ability to inquire about a suspects immigration status.

These people didn’t wait for the federal government to do their job, they took matters into their own hands and decided for themselves what kind of community and laws they want to enforce, and you know that Washington politicians are taking notice.

We give the federal government any power it wants by benign neglect, but it doesn’t have to be that way. We can get involved in local politics and state elections. We elect our congress critters and senators, so it is well with in our power to determine what kind of government we want in spite of who wins the white house.

While selecting a president is important, it’s not the be all end all of political influence, change can happen from communities on up. So remember that while your deciding on who to vote for this year, because whoever it is, this can still be a year of change.
